About Praxis

Praxis is an artist talk series in Ottawa. Artists present their work to a room of people who come to discover art and artists, build dialogue and help build the Ottawa art community. Talks are free, held in the evening, and open to anyone.

It started in spring 2026 out of a straightforward observation: Ottawa has a serious community of working artists, but too few occasions for those artists to show and discuss what they are making. Many ambitious artists feel the need to leave Ottawa for professional opportunities. We want to support artists in Ottawa, develop critical dialogue and provide the professional development artists need to thrive.

Praxis is a collective effort of Studio Space Ottawa's board, artists, and community. It is organised and hosted by SSO members on a volunteer basis. Praxis is supported in part by the City of Ottawa and Studio Space Ottawa.

Praxis is a program of Studio Space Ottawa, an artist-run space in Ottawa. Talks are held there, and SSO supports the program, but Praxis has its own identity and its own programme.
